Thomas C. Bowie Diary and Day Book, 1857-1877

Thomas Contee Bowie lived in Tensas Parish, La., between 1857 and 1877, during which time he kept bee hives and operated a cotton gin. The collection consists of a typescript copy of a brief diary, January-September 1857, and a day book, with entries 1874-1877. The diary contains terse entries regarding Bowie's flirtations and courtship of several young ladies, hunting, church activities, and his fights with other young men. The day book, 1874 to 1877, contains entries regarding Bowie's bee hives and cotton ginning activities, as well as records of servants' work.
